How we make money — and the standards we follow
Home by Numbers exists to make home energy decisions easier. Our calculators and Decision Packs are free to use. Where a useful next step exists, we may link to a provider, installer, retailer or service that can help you act on the numbers.
How Home by Numbers makes money
We don't charge you to use our calculators or Decision Packs.
Some links on Home by Numbers are affiliate or referral links. If you follow one and later request a quote, sign up for a service or make a purchase, Home by Numbers may receive a fee or commission from the provider.
We will make commercial links clear. We may also link to organisations where no commercial relationship exists, so a link does not automatically mean we are being paid.
What money cannot buy
- A partner cannot pay to change your calculator result.
- Commercial relationships do not alter the assumptions, formulas or methodology used by our tools.
- We will not hide a commercial relationship or present paid placement as an independent conclusion.
- The numbers should lead to the next step — the next step should never lead the numbers.
How we choose useful next steps
Our aim is not to fill pages with links. A next step should earn its place by being relevant to the decision you are making.
When we choose providers, products or services to feature, we look for things such as UK availability, a clear consumer proposition, appropriate accreditation or regulatory status where relevant, and whether the option genuinely helps someone act on the result they have just seen.
Where a meaningful Trustpilot profile exists, we would normally expect around 4.5/5 or above at the time we review a partner, while also considering the number and recency of reviews.
An affiliate relationship is not a claim that one provider is the best choice for everybody. It is a potential starting point. You remain free to compare alternatives, seek more than one quote and choose nobody at all.
Your decision stays yours
Home by Numbers provides information, estimates and modelling to help you understand your options. It is not personalised financial, legal, engineering or installation advice.
Prices, quotes, eligibility, product specifications and service terms offered by third parties can change. Check the provider's current terms, credentials and suitability for your home before committing.
Our standards
- Our calculators and Decision Packs are free.
- You should never need to give Home by Numbers your contact details just to see your result or download a Decision Pack.
- Affiliate relationships will be disclosed clearly.
- The calculation stays independent of the commercial relationship.
- We do not make sales calls or chase you after you use a calculator.
If a third-party quote or purchase journey asks for your details, you are choosing to deal directly with that third party and their own privacy terms apply.
Transparency matters
We want Home by Numbers to become a useful one-stop starting point for home energy decisions. That only works if people can trust the numbers and understand how the site is funded.
